UPS finally deliveried my little slice of Apple goodness a few minutes ago. It’s now resting comfortably upstairs while syncing up for apps, music, photos, etc.

Happy April Fool’s Day…

Posted by: | Comments (0)

While I don’t have any great jokes planned for everyone today, I do have one to pass along from the great geek shopping mecca of ThinkGeek.com.  These guys have turned what was supposed to be a practical joke into one of the most lusted retro gadgets.  I give you… the iCade.  Just slide your iPad into the iCade and play all your great classic arcade favorites.

The iCad for iPad

Honestly… how cool would this really be?

Welcome to the new MyGeekDaddy…

The move to our new site is finally complete. The update to switch web addresses took longer than I anticipated, which is why you may have seen an error earlier today. Look for new features in the weeks to come.

Normally I don't post items as specific and technical as this, but this one is important.  Microsoft is going to supply a VERY important update for Internet Explorer tomorrow.  This update is to patch an actively used exploit in Internet Explorer that could allow remote access to your computer.  This exploit is being compounded with another exploit being applied to web servers via the backend services used to provide content on the web page.  With these two exploits in the wild, normal computer users are able to get infected when visiting typical mainstream websites – even with up to date anti-virus and anti-spam software.

The patch is supposed be released around 1pm PST on Wednesday, so please check your computer tomorrow night for any updates and apply them immediately.

New posting method…

Posted by: | Comments (0)

As most of you know, I've switched over to Macs as my primary method of doing work at home.  However, my work life is almost 100% Microsoft.  So starting today I'm trying out a few new Live services from Microsoft (see Microsoft Live for choices).  The newest item is called Windows Live Writer.  It's essentially a stripped down version of a word processor made for editing online content.

The biggest benefit I've seen so far is Live Writer allows me to collect ideas offline and save them for later editing and posting.  I've been trying to use my iPhone's app, but I haven't been happy with the interface of the app.  I'll keep you posted as I re-open the door (just a little) for Microsoft again.

Happy Birthday Google…

Posted by: | Comments (0)

10th_birthdayGoogle turned 10 years old today and I can honestly say I’ve been using them for almost all of them.  To see the impact a little search engine company has had on both ‘net based and traditional companies has been one of the more facinating outcomes of the .com boom in the last 90′s.

Well congratulations Google, I can’t wait to see what you can do in the next 10 years.

Helium_largeSome times tech toys are just so sleeky sexy you can’t help notice them.  Iomega, makers of the infamous Zip Drive, has started to make a come back with a new rush on portable accessories.  The latest foray into the ‘must have’ geek item is a portable hard drive.  Now there a quite a few (a lot actually) of manufacturers in the portable hard drive market.  What’s making this one stand out is the capacity to price to sexy factor.  Out of the gate, later this month, Iomega will introduce the eGo Helium.  A 320 GB hard drive with a USB 2.0 connection in an enclosure that matches Apple’s Mac Book Pro or Apple Air laptops. MSRP is $145.

The web, now with Chrome accents…

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Google, in all their webbie glory, has decided to join the browser wars.  Google has recently released their version of a web browser, called Chrome.  Google decided that the web needed a new browser, because of the way cloud computing pages are being created today.  Most cloud computing websites use a scripting language to create the fancy application like pages – i.e. GMail or MobileMe.  The new browser was created to generate the graphics of these pages cleaner and faster than any other browser to date.  I’ve used the browser on and off for the past week and have to say it’s not that bad.  The one page that I couldn’t get to load, without a little trickery, was my Google home page.  Go figure.

Willing to look at Dell again…

Dellpencil22
Ok, now I know I bagged on Dell just a few days ago.  But rumors have been spreading about a new mini Dell laptop that’s supposed to be released any day now – Inspiron 910.  Now this is not the typical high powered laptop that I would normally be drooling over, in fact it’s the complete opposite.  Some of the specs for this mobile marvel, that most sites agree are definitely in, are a 9" screen, 1GB of RAM, with the choice of either a 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB SSD, and a built-in media card reader.  One of the more "if/possible" items include an option for a built-in 3G/Broadband card. All of this is rumored to start out at an astounding $299 price point.

Looking at the picture and specs, this little marvel isn’t going to be for everyone.  The 910 will be THE ticket for a mobile computer user that does their work from the Internet.  With ability to have a nearly 100% connection time (Ethernet, WiFi, or 3G/cellular broadband), users of this will be able to access all of their work from the cloud.  The size alone makes it highly attractive to those who have to travel quite a bit as part of their job.  I mean have you seen a laptop that fits on a tray top in coach lately?

Now if I could only get Apple to make this same computer for their Mac line.
