Dad, we’re learning that…
Posted by: | CommentsI took the boys to the library this morning. We walked around for a while trying to find some new books the boys would want to read. The boys have a habit of finding a book they like and getting it again and again.
Sam came back with a book he was going to read by himself and then stopped in the middle of the aisle. I asked him what was wrong and he said he wanted to make sure the book had some pictures. It did, so he went to sit down to start reading while Evan kept looking.
I came back to Sam and tried to explain to him that as he got older, his books would start to have less and less pictures. I said that pretty soon he’d start imagining what the story would look like in his head. I tried to give him an example and he stopped me right there.
He turned around and looked at me with the ‘Dad, I’m not stupid look’ and said, “Dad I know. We’re learning visualizing a story in school right now.”
It appears I got schooled by my 6y old today.
Don’t tell Sam…
Posted by: | CommentsThis is Evan.
In Sam’s room.
Sitting on Sam’s bed.
Playing on Sam’s Leapster.
I’m going to let Evan work this one out.
Quote of the day…
Posted by: | CommentsAs I was tucking Evan into bed tonight he asked me to carry him over to his bed. As I set him in his bed, we had this brief talk:
Me: Oh Evan, you’re getting to be so big.
Evan: Sorry Daddy, I’ll stop growing so I can stay 4 and be your little boy.
Almost choked up before I got out of his room. How can you not get emotional with a comment like that?
My Saturday’s are looking up

Sam is one step closer to Saturday morning independence. Which means Evan is one more step closer to Saturday morning independence. Which means I’m one step closer to being able to sleep in on Saturday again!
It’s all about the bigger picture in my book.
Halloween 2011
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s been a Star Wars kind of year, so it was natural that the evil Empire would rear its ugly head for the biggest day of make believe of the year.
Saturday afternoon at the library…
Posted by: | CommentsWhile Holly was running in the half marathon, I took the boys to the library for a Halloween event. Sam got picked for one of the demonstrations.
Quote of the day…
Posted by: | CommentsQOTD: “Here Dad, let me show you how that works.” Evan says this as he grabs MY iPhone out my hands.
Evan was trying explaining to me how one of his iPhone games work. Apparently I was a little too slow on the uptake to figure out how an iPhone works.
Whose iPhone is it…
Posted by: | CommentsHolly got her iPhone from Evan and to set it down to go brush the kids’ teeth.
Holly: Evan, I need my iPhone so we can go brush teeth.
Evan: Why?
Holly: Because it’s my iPhone.
Evan: No, it’s my iPhone.
And then the debate began on whose iPhone it really was. Evan was so convinced that it’s his iPhone he was arguing all the way to the bathroom. The rest of us thought it was kinda funny that he was so certain that he had ownership rights to Holly’s phone.
Maybe I can convince to help pay the bill to?
Maybe next year…
Posted by: | CommentsIf this kind of experiment doesn’t get Sam and Evan hooked on science, I’m not sure what will.
Science experiment…
Posted by: | CommentsThe second science class with Sam was on chemistry. In this experiment, called Elephant Toothpaste, allowed all the kids to play with chemicals and reactions.
