Digital domination…
Posted by: | CommentsWell we’re almost there. The day that Holly and I have been dreading for years. The day we know that things will never be the same in our house. It’s the day Sam can turn on the TV and play any content he wants. The scary part… he’s got 8 out 9 steps down.
For quiet time today Sam was able to turn on the DVD player, turn on the TV, insert the disc, press play, adjust the volume, and then pause the movie to go get a snack. The only stumbling block left is if the TV is set to cable and he needs to change the input source.
It will be an interesting day when that happens.
Like father, like son…

Posted by: | CommentsOne of the gifts from Christmas that still has Sam’s attention is his Leapster. I don’t remember who gave it to him, but he still loves it. He loves it so much that it’s started to get him in trouble. If he happens to wake up a little early he will turn on his Leapster and play quietly in his room. While I think this is great because he’s staying quiet in his room and not disturbing me or Evan, it screws up his afternoon and makes him very irritable by dinner time. The other thing that’s happened is he is burning through batteries. To the point Holly got to wondering how much he was playing with his Leapster.
She asked, ‘Sam, how much are you playing with your Leapster?’
Sam looked up at her and in a tone that screamed Duh, he said ‘Well… a lot.’ And then looked back up at her like you should know this.
The teen years look to be very interesting.
Making sure everyone is safe…
Posted by: | CommentsTonight I was playing with the boys downstairs and Sam wanted to build a fort. So I helped him with the blanket and the pillows he had set up. Sam was proud of what he built and said I needed to see the inside of his fort. As I climbed in I said it was a very nice fort and very comfy. Sam said, and I quote, “I built it to protect all of us from the sun’s harmful UV rays.”
Nice to know your son is looking out for you.
A good morning for Sam…
Posted by: | CommentsSam feels like he hit the jackpot today. On the drive over to daycare we usually listen to a playlist of Sam and Evan’s favorite songs. The songs come up totally random off the playlist… basically a no fuss music selection.
This morning the first three songs that played were literally Sam’s #1, #2, and #3 favorite songs. He was just beaming with happiness as we pulled into daycare.

Sledding adventures, Part II…
Posted by: | CommentsI took Sam sledding again today – as noted in the previous tweet post. A couple of highlights from today are:
1. Sam got to experience his first crowded hill today. Twice he got nearly knocked off his feet by someone else and only once did he get nicked to cause him to lose his balance.
2. Sam only got run over once at the end of a sledding run, but did get to do a face plant when his tube tipped over in some deeper snow. He face planted so hard that snow was lodges all the way around his head, under his hat. Imagine a 4 year old boy as an ostrich in the snow. (Sorry no picture).
3. I forgot how much punishment I must have given my body when I sledding at my peak. I saw kids doing jumps on the stomachs and then flipping or rolling off their sleds as they landed. Not sure if it was funnier watching the kids doing the jumps or the reactions from various moms that were watching their kids as they landed.
Nice to have a ‘normal’ winter day and get out in the sun.
Future promises…
Posted by: | CommentsDuring dinner tonight, Sam was watching one of his favorite shows… America’s Funniest Videos. Sam calls it the Funny Show. Well tonight on the Funny Show they had a quick series of video’s showing kids getting their baby teeth pulled out in funny ways. Sam thought it was really funny until he asked if he was going to lose his teeth. I said yes he would some day. He was fine with that until it sunk in that he was going to lose them some day.
Sam sat there a bit and finally looked up a little teary eyed and asked, ‘Dad, you’re not going to try and pull my teeth out like those mean Dads? Are you?’ I said no, we’ll let them fall out naturally. He seemed a little better after I assured him I wouldn’t do that. But no less than 15 seconds I made Sam feel better he turned to Evan and said, ‘Evan, you’re going to lose your teeth someday and it’s going to bleed and hurt a little bit. Too bad.’
He then turned back to his toys as if nothing happened. What a great big brother.
