iPhone data tether…
Posted by: | CommentsThe entire earth wobbled just a little bit when millions of iPhone owners jumped up and down when they found out that they can now tether their iPhone to their laptop for a data connection. This practice allows a user to have an Internet connection through their iPhone. This was one of the last ‘it would nice to have’ features on the iPhone.
Just in time to play with over the weekend!
New driving law…
Posted by: | CommentsJust a quick note to all drivers going through the great state of Minnesota: Don’t text and drive, it could turn out to be an expensive message. Starting today (8/1), law enforcement can pull you over for texting while driving and issue you a ticket for $300.
BTW: I heard this on the radio while driving into work and waited until I got out of the car to send this post. Can’t say that’s how every post has been done, but it will from now on.
Best new iPhone app…

The best app that I’ve found to date on the new iPhone is the AOL Radio application. Think of this as XM satellite radio on your iPhone. There’s almost 30 different genres to pick from with 10-40 stations per group. Now the hook that Apple and AOL has with this app is the ability to go from listening to the song to purchasing the song in a single button click. Maybe it’s time to look into those spending limit protections iTunes has.
It’s 2am and I’m still drooling…

I’ve finally got back from the lake cruise and chaperon duties for a post celebration. While on the outing, it was discovered that Apple had unofficially released the iPhone software update for original iPhone owners. I have now spent the last 1-1/2 playing with the new software and I LOVE IT! Thankfully the boss gave us a little reprieve by allowing everyone to come in around 9am. I’ll post more tomorrow after being able to play with the update for a while.
iPhone update…

Most of you know that I spent a little time waiting for Apple’s newest consumer cellphone – the iPhone.
The little gadget has become a cornerstone of my gadget collection. Now
some of you may be wondering what the big deal is, but for the Geek
Daddy this was bigger than a Christmas in July – just ask Holly. People
had started waiting for this little gem anywhere between 2 to 24 hours
before it was released at 6:00PM on Friday. The day the iPhone was to
be released I was traveling back from a week in Idaho for work. This
meant I got to spend most of the flight working out a strategy on the
best way to get my hands on my own phone. I landed around 5:20PM on
Friday and headed straight to the closest AT&T store,
which happened to the one in Apple Valley. I waited in line for about
an hour at the AT&T store and a person a few spots up got a call.
His girlfriend said the lines at the Mall of America’s Apple Store were already clear. So I jumped in my truck, made a beeline to the Mall of America,
and RAN to the Apple Store. Sure enough, the lines were gone and I got
my iPhone right away. In the time it took me to drive from Apple
Valley, get to the Mall of America, buy my iPhone, and drive back
through Apple Valley – the guy behind me in line was the next person to
get into the AT&T store. I went straight to Mom & Dad’s house
to get a wi-fi connection to activate the phone.
This
little gem is four gadgets that Apple was able to blend (and hype) into
one spectacular little device. (Note to everyone, Holly has said Apple
should have given me a PR contract). The iPhone is a cell phone, an
iPod, an email messenger, and a web browser. For example, emails now
being sent to me are nine times out ten being answered from my iPhone.
The initial pictures I sent to our flickr photo album were
emailed from my iPhone and automatically posted to the on-line photo
album. This means a lot more of the frequent (think… capture a funny
moment) pictures will be uploaded. Pictures that are really special
will make it over to this blog.
