New pics on Flickr
Posted by: | CommentsThere are some new pictures from the storms we had last night up on Flickr: Link. Pretty sure we lost the entire garden due to hail and the fins on our A/C unit look like Evan beat it with Sam’s baseball bat. Otherwise no other damage that I’ve been able to see. Sample pic from last night’s storm is below:
How I spent my Memorial Day weekend…
Posted by: | CommentsSometimes you want to be able to brag to your coworkers about the cool things you did over your summer holiday weekend. Here’s what I did last weekend.
And I can honestly say I feel I topped every story I’ve heard so far with this. The boys loved the addition (at least for the first day or two) and the neighbor kids are playing over here a little more often. Which is part of the reason we did it. If all the neighbor kids are here, that means I don’t need to worry as much about where Sam or Evan may have wandered off to.
That’s a win-win in my book!
Dad’s little helper…
Posted by: | CommentsEvan wanted to make sure he helped with the construction of the new add-on to the swingset. So when I had to bring some more wood to the back yard, he was right there helping too.
Construction update…
Posted by: | CommentsHere’s a quick update on our progress with the renovations in the backyard. As you can see we’re adding a penthouse to the existing swingset structure. I no longer get, ‘Hi Dad’ when I walk in the door. It’s now, ‘Are you going to finish tonight?’

Summer finally returns…
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s mid May and the weather has finally turned the corner. The boys have been literally bouncing off the walls. They got so used to being outside for most of April, the cold and rain the last two weeks has been a bit of a downer. Outside home improvement projects start this weekend with building planter boxes for Holly, re-doing the landscaping in the front yard, planting the garden, and adding a tower section to the swingset.
Did I mention that I’m not bored anymore?
Meet my neighbor…
Posted by: | CommentsMeet my neighbor… he’s a douche. Now I don’t say this lightly because I try to be a good neighbor, you know the ‘Golden Rule’ and all. So why would I call someone from my very own neighborhood such a name? Here’s why.
This is my yard. It’s a rich, think, green grass… almost like a plush carpet for the outdoors. Mmmm…
And this… this is my neighbor’s yard. Not so plush and not so mmmm.
So begins the border battle. Last year my philosophy was precision killing by carefully cutting out the dandelions and placing weed killer over the exposed root. That worked pretty good, but this year it just isn’t working. So this year I will use the ‘better lawn care through modern chemistry’ approach. Me and the Lowe’s garden center manager are going to be on a first name basis by the 4th of July. I just know it.
Do you think there’s an ordinance against having Tru-Green spray his yard if I pay for it?
And the deck is open for business…
Posted by: | CommentsIt was such a beautiful evening after we got back from MOA, we decided it was time to open the deck. Had the first dinner on the deck for 2010 and you couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous evening.
A conversation I’m sure that will happen…
Posted by: | CommentsI’m sure that this conversation will occur at least once in my life.
Yes, we’re still here…
Posted by: | CommentsI was reminded, via an email to Holly, that I haven't updated things here recently. Yes, I have neglected things for a while, but I've been trying to get a few other things done in the background at home so I can be more consistent with my updates here and on my tech blog – Family Tech Guy (yes, I now have two blogs).
Spring is arriving in MN and not a moment too soon. Both of the boys have been playing more and more outside now that the weather has been cooperating. Sam has taking a liking to baseball and the baseball tee he got for his birthday. Evan just loves it outside and gets mad at anyone who takes him back inside (which is why I always let Holly do it).
Look for updates on the back splash install in the kitchen soon. We haven't started yet, but I know Holly is anxious to get this one behind us.
Passing of a legend…
Posted by: | CommentsLocal TV and radio stations are talking about the passing of legendary radio personality Steve Cannon. Steve Cannon passed away last night at the age of 81, after a 5 month battle with cancer.
Now I may not have listened to Steve Cannon, like my Mom and Dad, but it doesn't mean his passing hasn't jarred loose a few memories. I can hardly remember a drive to Marshall that didn't include hearing his voice, or some of the characters he did, on a large portion of the drive. Well… at least until the large red 'Noel' sign just south of Belle Plaine.
It always amazes me how something so small as a jingle (and his is unforgettable) can be tied to so many memories. Thanks Steve.
