Knowing the value of a dollar…

By

Sam ‘borrowed’ my sunglasses for a second walk/bike ride with the entire family this evening.  The sunglasses he chose to borrow were my favorite Oakley’s I use for cycling – he obviously has good taste.  Half way out on the walk/ride, he asked if he could keep my sunglasses.  I gently said no he couldn’t, but then added he could have them if he had a hundred dollars.  I asked him if he had a hundred dollars and Sam reluctantly said he didn’t.  I said when we get home he’ll have to give my sunglasses back, unless he get Mommy to loan him a hundred dollars.  Hearing this, Sam darted ahead to ask for a small loan from Holly.

Sam came up to Holly and asked if he could have a hundred dollars.  Holly of course asked why he needed a hundred dollars.  Sam explained why and Holly said she didn’t have a hundred dollars.  Sam quickly added, ‘But Mom I don’t need a hundred dollars, I just need one dollar that has a 100 on it.’

We both giggled hard, but poor Sam didn’t understand why we were laughing at his perfectly logical request.
