How we spent our weekend…
Posted by: | CommentsWell, we finally did it. We broke down and put up a new swing set for the boys. I took some time off on Thursday to get a jump start on cutting the wood and we wrapped up construction this afternoon. Sam absolutely loves it. The swing set is from the same company that made the one we built at our last house. As you can see below, his neighborhood friend likes it too.
Sam's friend Hillary from the neighborhood.
Same concept as the last one, but this one has a walking bridge.
Wierd little event…
Posted by: | CommentsI went to lunch to fill my truck up and get a few groceries. As I finished up filling up my truck, what appeared to be a nice old lady came out of the gas station and started screaming at me. I stood there thinking she must have gotten mad at someone in the store and was still upset. Nope, she came straight at me screaming about how could I be so inconsiderate and not look at what I was doing. I looked around and wondered if I spilled some gas, dropped some garbage out of my truck or if she thought I might have hit her car. None of them.
As she pulled out I could hear her complain to her husband, 'How dare he park in front me. He should have known I wanted to pull straight out.' Honest.
A matter of perspective…
Posted by: | CommentsTake a look at the picture below. What's your immediate thought… bunch of chairs, cleaning the floors, or something like that?
Nope, according to Sam, "Look Mommy, a bunch of places to jump and climb on!"
Hygeine comments from Sam…
Posted by: | CommentsIt was my turn to tuck in Sam after Holly got done reading books. So after singing to Sam (yes, I try) and snuggling for a little bit, I gave Sam a good night kiss. After I kissed him, Sam bluntly said, "Daddy, you need to shave your whiskers if you want to kiss me again." Thanks, Sam.
Playing in the rain…
Posted by: | CommentsThe boys got a little time to play outside before they had to go inside for their bath. Evan and Sam had a blast.
I’ve officially become my parents…
Posted by: | CommentsIt's been a nice morning and as we approached lunch Holly and I wanted to run an errand and then go out to lunch. As we feared, Evan fell asleep 10 minutes out from the restaurant and Sam started to get grumpy too. So we headed back and decided it was nap time for everyone.
We made Sam lunch and 'hoped' he would take a small nap while Evan was down. Sam finished lunch and said he wanted some juice. No big deal, so I got him some juice and went back in the kitchen. A few minutes later he said he was done and wanted some more. I said no, because he had had enough juice already. Sam sat there a few minutes trying to think of a way to get some more juice. So he asked nicely and I nicely said no. He asked why and I said the famous words, "Because I said so."
He sat there a few more minutes and said, "But Daddy, you know you have to have a reason to say no."
Note to all friends and family…
Posted by: | CommentsThe next person who gives either of our sons a Transformer toy shall be banned from holiday events for the following 12 months. You’ve been warned!
Yes, we’re still here…
Posted by: | CommentsI was reminded, via an email to Holly, that I haven't updated things here recently. Yes, I have neglected things for a while, but I've been trying to get a few other things done in the background at home so I can be more consistent with my updates here and on my tech blog – Family Tech Guy (yes, I now have two blogs).
Spring is arriving in MN and not a moment too soon. Both of the boys have been playing more and more outside now that the weather has been cooperating. Sam has taking a liking to baseball and the baseball tee he got for his birthday. Evan just loves it outside and gets mad at anyone who takes him back inside (which is why I always let Holly do it).
Look for updates on the back splash install in the kitchen soon. We haven't started yet, but I know Holly is anxious to get this one behind us.
it’s a marathon, not a race…
Posted by: | Comments I finally have a little something to brag about in my poker game again. Friday night I got entered into a freeroll satellite on FTP. That game, plus about 3-1/2 hours of play time, got me a 1st place win and a buy-in to a $60k tournament in May. I have to say this is almost as good as the win I had in Vegas ($600 local tournament I took 1st in), but knowing I had to outplay 4x as many players as I did in Vegas is pretty sweet.
Passing of a legend…
Posted by: | CommentsLocal TV and radio stations are talking about the passing of legendary radio personality Steve Cannon. Steve Cannon passed away last night at the age of 81, after a 5 month battle with cancer.
Now I may not have listened to Steve Cannon, like my Mom and Dad, but it doesn't mean his passing hasn't jarred loose a few memories. I can hardly remember a drive to Marshall that didn't include hearing his voice, or some of the characters he did, on a large portion of the drive. Well… at least until the large red 'Noel' sign just south of Belle Plaine.
It always amazes me how something so small as a jingle (and his is unforgettable) can be tied to so many memories. Thanks Steve.
