Sometimes, you gotta wonder…
Posted by: | CommentsBy now, most of you should have seen one of the two goofy ads Microsoft has put out featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. If you haven’t, then you’re not missing too much. Microsoft has shifted their ad campaign, which is trying to make Microsoft look hip and relevant against Apple, to a new format of ‘Look at me, I’m just like everyone else and I use a PC.’ Which translated in my view means, ‘Look at me, I have no frickin’ idea on how to run an ad campaign.’
Keep trying Redmond.
A crappy ending to a great weekend…
Posted by: | CommentsThe Vikings loss wasn’t exactly how I’d hoped an otherwise great weekend would end. Holly and I have started to get things changed around the house the way we want to have them – changing closets around, planning out paint colors, fixing the odds and ends, etc. The weekend was just a nice at home type of time, until about 2:45pm on Sunday. That’s when I saw our visionary coach and star quarterback blew our chance to take the lead for good. Thanks again you two for another disappointing end to a football game.
Stuff I’m only finding on the negatives…

Another blast from the past I found last night on one of the negatives I scanned. She sure was a cutey in her day.
The web, now with Chrome accents…
Posted by: | CommentsGoogle, in all their webbie glory, has decided to join the browser wars. Google has recently released their version of a web browser, called Chrome. Google decided that the web needed a new browser, because of the way cloud computing pages are being created today. Most cloud computing websites use a scripting language to create the fancy application like pages – i.e. GMail or MobileMe. The new browser was created to generate the graphics of these pages cleaner and faster than any other browser to date. I’ve used the browser on and off for the past week and have to say it’s not that bad. The one page that I couldn’t get to load, without a little trickery, was my Google home page. Go figure.
Paydirt…

As I mentioned before, I am trying to digitize older pictures from my Mom and Dad’s collection. Well I found some great pictures off of a set of negatives in one of the boxes they had. This is a series of pictures of Lisa and I, at the farm, wearing old motorcycle helmets. There are several pictures on the negatives that either I’ve never seen before or did not have an actual picture in the photo pile. I unfortunately did not find the one with Lisa looking at the stuffed mouse.
Biggest game of the season…
Posted by: | Commentsand I’m in Lake Norden, South Dakota. Actually I’m sitting in the lounge of the Ramkota Inn in Watertown. I’ve got a wifi signal, a beer and my work laptop, so I can "catch up on things from the office" while I watch the game. Go Vikes!
Apple event tomorrow (9/9)…
Posted by: | Comments
Apple is hosting another one of their famous product announcement events tomorrow at 10am PST/12pm CST. Rumors have been floating around on what Steve and Co. will be revealing to the masses tomorrow in regards to product updates. Apple has typically had a release around this time of year for product updates in anticipation of the Christmas shopping season. Possible announcements include:
- New design for the iPod Nano (as previously mentioned)
- Across the board iPod price reductions
- A new 2.1 software on iPod Touch & iPhone
- iTunes 8.0
How convenient that I have a conference in the Twin Cities on Wednesday near the Mall of America. Honetly, I really do.
Metallica rocks…
Posted by: | CommentsThis isn’t an announcement of a new Metallica album (even though there is one coming out on 9/12, just in case you’re interested). No, this is about my new found appreciation of the mimic behaviors of a certain 3-1/2 year old. I’ve now been able to get Sam to repeat, on his own, the mantra, "Metallica rocks, Mommy!" Holly was only slightly amused the first time she heard this.
Now, Sam and I typically chit chat on our way around town – dropping him and
Evan off to daycare in the morning, running errands, etc. Normally the
talk comes down to what music we’re either going to listen to or what
music is currently on the radio. XM radio now has a channel dedicated
to Metallica and is frequently on when Sam gets into the truck. Over
the last couple of weeks Sam has been able to know if the Metallica
station is on by their somewhat distinctive sound (as compared to the
theme music from Cars and Nemo). He has even asked to listen to Metallica by his own choice – I swear!
Well last week we decided that we’d all go out to eat as a break from all the unpacking. As we were driving around I flipped on XM and it happened to be on the Metallica channel. I bet the song hadn’t even played 6 notes and Sam blurts out, "Hey Mommy, that’s Metallica rocks".
Holly is a little less amused now.
Fannie Mae & Freddy Mac follow-up…
Posted by: | CommentsI made reference in an earlier post about how the FDIC take over of two of the biggest mortgage companies – Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac – should have been left to play out as the market deemed fit. Looking deeper into the situation, I now can see the larger repercussions a complete failure of these two companies would have. Dad passed along a great summary of the winners and losers of the FDIC take over here: WSJ Blog.
Blast from the past…

I’ve embarked on a new project to digitize some old family photo’s. As I complete the scans and cleaning of the pictures, I’ll be posting some of the better ones here for everyone to share. This picture is definitely one to make you go hmmmm….
