Funny explanation, of a not so funny situation…

The game that should not have been played…
Posted by: | CommentsWhile this may sound like a bitter afterthought from the Twins loss to Chicago tonight, it’s actually been on my mind since I found out the Twins would need to play a tie breaker game due to the White Sox’s win over Detroit yesterday… and apparently I’m not the only one.
Step back to Sunday afternoon. The Twins and White Sox both won their respective games, leaving Chicago 0.5 games back due to a missed game. Step back further to late August when there was a basic three way tie between Minnesota, Chicago and Boston for the two remaining spots in the AL post season. At that time a coin flip was made to determine where tie breaker games would be played in case two of the three teams tied up one of the two remaining spots for the post-season.
Before all those continengies and plans were put in place, last Sunday the Twins should have been declared the AL Central Division champions. At that point, the Twins had bested Chicago in the overall series from the regular season at a tied record (assuming Chicago won their make-up game). In any other team sport, that would have been enough to declare the Twins division champs and give them a ticket to the post-seaon.
Instead, we’re going to throw away 162 regular season games and a 18 games series, which the Twins won 10-8, and essentially gamble each team’s chance on a single tie breaker game. So the Twins essentially played 1 game to make or break their post-season chance and all the other teams got to move on to the next round based on how they played the entire season.
Thanks Bud, you screwed us again!

Massive Flickr update…

Happy Birthday Google…

Google turned 10 years old today and I can honestly say I’ve been using them for almost all of them. To see the impact a little search engine company has had on both ‘net based and traditional companies has been one of the more facinating outcomes of the .com boom in the last 90’s.
Well congratulations Google, I can’t wait to see what you can do in the next 10 years.

Some times tech toys are just so sleeky sexy you can’t help notice them. Iomega, makers of the infamous Zip Drive, has started to make a come back with a new rush on portable accessories. The latest foray into the ‘must have’ geek item is a portable hard drive. Now there a quite a few (a lot actually) of manufacturers in the portable hard drive market. What’s making this one stand out is the capacity to price to sexy factor. Out of the gate, later this month, Iomega will introduce the eGo Helium. A 320 GB hard drive with a USB 2.0 connection in an enclosure that matches Apple’s Mac Book Pro or Apple Air laptops. MSRP is $145.
Break out the champagne…
Posted by: | CommentsWell we finally did it, we got both vehicles into the garage. The last time we were able to do this was about the first week of August. We are now starting to look seriously at painting options for different rooms in the house. Between the work I’ve done in the garage and Holly’s plans inside, the house won’t look like any of the pictures I posted back in August – which is a good thing.
Yes, yes he does Sam…

On our way to a family reunion today, we tried a new travel trick with Sam. We got Sam to listen to his movie with headphones, so Holly and I wouldn’t have to listen to Shrek all the way to Marshall. As you can see, Sam was traveling in style with his headphones and new sunglasses (Spider-Man of course).
Boy I wish my trips to Marshall had been this nice at his age.

Holly went shopping with Sam this weekend and he finally picked out his Halloween costume. As you can see he chose Batman this year. Holly and I were both surprised he chose Batman over Spider-Man (that’s who Evan will be) for his costume.
Batman is showing off his muscles for the camera here.
