Pronunciation…
ByHolly and I were getting Evan ready for bed and Sam wanted to help make some more formula. So Sam diligently pulled up a stool and said, ‘I’m going to help make more forminilla.’ I know what he meant, it’s just that he pronounced it a little off. Sam and I finished up and went downstairs with an empty can of formula.
As we were playing I asked Sam if he could tell me what the empty can was. He came back and said, ‘Forminilla’. Ok. Let’s break this down and see if he can learn what it really is. I ask Sam to say each syllable out separately – "For" "Mu" "La". He repeats them with absolute clarity. I get him to say them again and he repeats "For" "Mu" "La". I then ask him to say them together slowly and it comes out as "Formula". Great!
I then point to the can and ask him what is it… "Forminilla" This goes on for about another 15-20 minutes!!! Everytime I can get him to say the syllables, slowly put them together, but when he needs to say what the word is at regular speed… poof a new word.
I felt like Phoebe trying to teach Joey how to speak French.
