No email, no internet…
Posted by: | CommentsFor the third time I’ve had to say that I still don’t have my email out. We’re now experiencing minor technical problems with our DSL service. By the good graces of an unknown (and unaware) neighbor, we’ve been ‘borrowing’ net access to get caught on things.
So far we’ve unpacked about 60% of the ’stuff’ we moved over from the old house. Sam and Evan have explored about every inch of the house and love it.
Ok, no email…
Posted by: | CommentsI know I was supposed to send out an email. But just about 10 min after I sent my last post we found a couple more things to do. After that we crashed and got up this morning to get started again. I’ll have pics and the email later this weekend when we get net access back.
Day one complete…
Posted by: | CommentsWell we got quite a bit done today. A special thanks again to my little sis, Jen, for helping us out today. We got a lot more accomplished than we had hoped. As of now (it’s about 9:45pm) we have all of the loose items in the entire house moved, except for our room, the lawn tractor, and some misc cleaning supplies. We expect by 2pm tomorrow to be completely out of Cardinal Drive.
I promised friends and family an email with the new address. Expect that to come out later tonight before we lose Internet access tomorrow morning.
Getting ready for the first load…

Just about ready to leave for our first drop off to the new house.
Moving day…
Posted by: | CommentsWell moving day is here and… it’s raining and it doesn’t look like it will let up until about 10 minutes after we have to be at the new house for our final inpsection and start moving in. Holly and I appreciated all the prayers for a nice day, but they obviously got overridden by those praying for a little rain for the crops.
I’ll try to post pics as we progress through the day.
Apple rumor round up…
Posted by: | CommentsApple is at it again, updating their shiny little gadets and making them even shinier. Rumors have been floating around of a new iPod line up just in time to go back to school. I know I’m not going back to school, but Sam is starting preschool this year (lots of drama from the Mommy dept), so maybe Dad will have to pick one up for him. Just in case. The latest rumor round up is this:
Possible updates from Apple in September:
- Revamp of entire iPod line.
- Small cosmetic changes to Touch (possible GPS too).
- Nano to see significant redesign (see pic below).
- iPods to see fairly large price drops to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.
- iPod touch 2.1 software (iPhone to get update very soon after).
- iTunes 8.0 ("it’s a big update w/new features").
- All of this coming in the next 2-3 weeks Sept 9.
Shown below is a picture that most pundits have said to appear to be a valid (or at least credible) picture of what the new iPod Nano will look like, based on current sources from within Apple. The screen have a high gloss front (glass or plastic is not known), similar to what Apple has had on other versions of their portable media player. The display will now sport a wide screen aspect ratio, just like the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Sight of the day…
Posted by: | CommentsApparently only weird things in my life happen at HyVee. The latest sight if the day happened when I was walking out of the store. A guy nearly walked into three different groups of people. The reason… He was talking on his cell phone and a Bluetooth unit AT THE SAME TIME. Apparently he was important enough to have two phone, but not smart enough to get 3 way calling to work.
Willing to look at Dell again…
Posted by: | Comments
Ok, now I know I bagged on Dell just a few days ago. But rumors have been spreading about a new mini Dell laptop that’s supposed to be released any day now – Inspiron 910. Now this is not the typical high powered laptop that I would normally be drooling over, in fact it’s the complete opposite. Some of the specs for this mobile marvel, that most sites agree are definitely in, are a 9" screen, 1GB of RAM, with the choice of either a 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB SSD, and a built-in media card reader. One of the more "if/possible" items include an option for a built-in 3G/Broadband card. All of this is rumored to start out at an astounding $299 price point.
Looking at the picture and specs, this little marvel isn’t going to be for everyone. The 910 will be THE ticket for a mobile computer user that does their work from the Internet. With ability to have a nearly 100% connection time (Ethernet, WiFi, or 3G/cellular broadband), users of this will be able to access all of their work from the cloud. The size alone makes it highly attractive to those who have to travel quite a bit as part of their job. I mean have you seen a laptop that fits on a tray top in coach lately?
Now if I could only get Apple to make this same computer for their Mac line.
Sight of the day…
Posted by: | CommentsWent grocery shopping tonight at our local HyVee. Now this store is about 3+ miles from the closest residential area. HyVee also has a liquor store adjacent to the store. So it was a little odd to see not one, not two, but four bicycles parked in front of the store. You really had to bike 3+ miles on your bike to get your beer?
Another reason why I switched to a Mac…
Posted by: | CommentsI got another wonderful chance tonight to once again deal with telephone sales support for Dell. Now I’m the first to admit I was a big Dell fan for many years (in fact they have a new mini laptop that looks very interesting). But at the time I was the big Dell fan, I also had enough systems under a support contract that I got to deal with a US support center. Now most people probably have only a single computer and would have to deal with the typical support person from the overseas support center. Well tonight I had to call Dell to order a new keyboard for Holly’s laptop because Evan literally ripped off two different keys from her laptop keyboard. After about 25 minutes on the phone, I finally got the replacement part ordered.
Compare this to Apple’s Genius Bar where I can make an appointment online or walk in and talk to a REAL person about my computer problem. Imagine having the chance to be able to walk up a dedicated support person who is going to be able to talk to you face to face, touch your computer to see the problem, and give you an answer on what’s going to happen before you walk out the door. Apple may have a smaller market share (for now), but they will continue to win over consumers with the intimate support model they have for all of their products.
