Turn it outside out…

By

Sometimes you have to take a second look at a child’s logic and wonder if they were actually more on the ball than you give them credit for. This morning Sam was getting dressed and his shirt was twisted inside out. Holly explained that he needed to turn his shirt inside out for it to fit. He looked at his shirt curiously while he turned it about and finally reiterated the task and said, “I’m turning my shirt outside out.”

I was getting ready in our room and overheard the conversation and stopped when Sam said his version. What made me stop was the logic Sam had applied to his task actually made more sense than the normal phrase. Sam needed to get the ‘outside’ of his shirt to the outside of the twisted up shirt. So when he said outside out, it actually made sense.

Holly and I then had a 5 minute discussion on why Sam’s version was better. In the end she thought I had an even more tilted view of realty… maybe she’s right.
